Each dot is one school. Select a dot to read its story.
Campuses, colored by their published Dashboard performance. Select a campus for detail.
2025 color → 2026 color for the selected indicator and student group. Select a cell to inspect those records.
Colors combine status and change using CDE indicator-specific rules. A color change is different from a change in the numeric status. Missing colors include small groups and indicators without a prior color.
Pin up to four schools or districts from the table or a school detail panel.
Start with San Diego Unified, then explore the question that matters to your school.
Supplemental compares public California School Dashboard results from the 2025 and 2026 releases. It opens to San Diego Unified schools, excluding charter schools, using the 2026 release and all students.
The summary at the top shows the district's official result first, with the California statewide result beside it for comparison. School filters do not change these published totals.
Pick an indicator across the top, such as Math or Absence. Then choose a student group on the left. The summary and the school counts update to match.
Use the filters to set your comparison. Choose school or district level, narrow by county, city, or school type, and use area and cluster for San Diego Unified. Reset returns to the starting view.
In Status and change, each dot is one school. Left to right shows the current result. Up and down shows the official change from CDE. Color shows the performance level.
The panel beside the chart defines the measure, so you know which direction is favorable.
Select a dot or a school name to open its story. You see the current status, the official change, the 2025 result, and the baseline CDE used.
From here, pin the school for comparison, find similar schools statewide, or open the official CDE report and additional reports.
Scroll down to see every student group for the same indicator. Groups overlap, so never add their counts together.
Peer context plots results against demographics, such as the share of socioeconomically disadvantaged students. Use the horizontal axis menu to switch measures.
Open Refine the peer context to limit the set by socioeconomic and English learner percentages. Then select Apply peer filters.
Color transitions show how each school's color moved from 2025 to 2026. Rows are last year and columns are this year. Select a cell, such as orange to yellow.
The results table now lists only those schools. Select the same cell again to return to the full list.
In the results table, search for any school, sort a column such as official change, and select Download CSV to save the filtered list.
Select the plus button beside a school to pin it. Pin up to four, then open Compare to see them side by side.
Copy view link saves your filters and pins, so a colleague opens exactly what you see.
The How to use tab walks through each step. This video lives there too, with captions and a written transcript.
It also defines status, change, performance color, and every indicator, with links to official CDE resources.
About the data lists every public source, the snapshot date, and the limits. Values are published by CDE, and suppressed small groups stay unavailable.
The summary above shows the selected district's official result first. California statewide comparison is a separate benchmark. Both use the same indicator, student group and release. School filters affect the school list, charts and counts; they do not recalculate CDE's published district or statewide aggregates. Pinned comparisons retain their named places when filters change.
This tool opens to San Diego Unified schools, excluding charter schools, using the 2026 release and All students. Use the charter controls to include charter schools when needed. A shared link can open a different saved view.
Supplemental helps compare published public results. The official California School Dashboard and CDE accountability and support website provide the state reports and rules.
Select an indicator, such as Math, Absence or Graduation. Choose a student group. Change the release to 2025 to inspect that year's published results.
Keep School level to compare sites. Choose District / LEA level for official district records. Narrow by county, district, school type, city or ZIP. SDUSD also has area and cluster filters.
In Status & change, each dot represents one place. The horizontal axis shows its result; the vertical axis shows CDE's official numeric change. Select a dot or a school name for its definition, baseline, students and groups.
Open Color transitions. Rows show 2025 and columns show 2026. Select a cell to filter the results table to that journey. Use Clear selection to return to the full set.
Use Communities for campus locations. Use Peer context for demographic comparisons. In a school panel, Find similar schools selects the same type and SED/EL shares within 10 percentage points statewide.
Pin up to four places with the + button and open Compare. Review student groups in school detail. Copy view link preserves filters and pins. Download CSV includes the currently filtered results.
The current result for the selected Dashboard release, such as a rate or points from standard. Status levels categorize that result from Very low to Very high using CDE's indicator-specific rules.
CDE's published difference from its comparison baseline. The category can be Maintained even when the number moves slightly. The 2026 baseline can differ from the originally published 2025 result.
Status and change combine to produce a color. From lowest to highest: Red, Orange, Yellow, Green, Blue. Use the applicable CDE color table; numeric improvement alone does not guarantee a higher color.
The students included in that indicator's calculation. It can differ from total campus enrollment. Student groups overlap, and their counts must not be added together.
ELA and Math use distance from standard (DFS); zero is the standard. A rate increasing from 60% to 65% changes by 5 percentage points, not 5% relative growth. Science uses Science Points.
An unpublished or suppressed value stays unavailable. No color is not a zero or a Red rating. A numeric result may be available while a color is unavailable because CDE reporting requirements differ.
SED is CDE's socioeconomically disadvantaged category. EL is English learner enrollment share. FRPM is free or reduced-price meal eligibility. These campus-wide context measures are separate from the selected outcome group.
No matching place/indicator/student-group record was found in the 2025 release. This does not by itself mean a school newly opened. Opening dates, when available, come from the public directory.
Definitions are summarized from the Dashboard glossary, CDE performance levels and the indicator data layouts linked under About the data.
Use the correct unit and direction before comparing results. Select a resource link for official CDE indicator details and downloadable data.
Select Absence and your student group. A negative numeric change is favorable because fewer students were chronically absent. Sort Official change, inspect a school's groups, and check the color journey.
Review current status, official change and the categorical levels together. A small numeric gain can be Maintained. CDE applies indicator-specific thresholds and reporting rules.
Open a school and choose Find similar schools. Examine stronger results within that set, then compare groups and denominators. This identifies a possible conversation partner; it does not establish which practices caused the result.

Status is the published result for the selected release. Change is CDE's published difference from its comparison baseline, calculated before rounding. Color combines status and change under indicator-specific rules. The five colors run from Red to Orange, Yellow, Green and Blue.
The 2026 comparison baseline can differ from the value originally published in 2025. This app shows both the 2025 published result and CDE's 2026 baseline in school detail. It preserves the official 2026 change.
ELA and mathematics use distance from standard (DFS). Science uses Science Points on a 0 to 100 scale. Other indicators use percentages. Percentage-point changes are not percent growth. Lower chronic absence and suspension rates are favorable; higher values are favorable for the other indicators.
School and district/LEA records are kept separate. Student groups overlap and must not be summed. The summary shows the selected district first and labels California as a statewide comparison. District and statewide values are the CDE-published aggregates, never an average of school percentages. School filters do not recalculate these official aggregates. Counts, peer medians, maps and color-transition counts describe the filtered records; pinned comparisons identify their own places. New schools are retained when present in the release; "newly reported" means there is no matching 2025 indicator/group record and does not establish an opening date.
SED and English learner shares come from CDE's 2026 Dashboard enrollment file. FRPM is a separate CDE 2025-26 eligibility measure. Peer filters use campus-wide demographics, even when an outcome group is selected. Peer-context charts help identify questions and potential bright spots; they do not estimate what a school causes or prove that a school is "beating the odds."
The table's "above peer median" marker uses the current filtered set, requires at least 10 numeric results, and accounts for whether higher or lower is favorable. Use the school detail button to select the same school type and peers within 10 percentage points on SED and EL shares.
Suppressed, nonnumeric and unavailable values are shown as unavailable and never replaced with zero. Small groups can have a numeric status without a performance color. A missing 2025 record is different from a missing color. 2025 Science was informational, so prior color comparisons for Science have limited coverage.
This is a versioned snapshot of the public October 15, 2026 release, with published 2025 records. Refreshes require a checked data build and deployment. It is not a live feed of individual students. 2026 growth and additional reports are scheduled separately by CDE and are not included. School addresses use the current public CDE directory; SDUSD areas and clusters use an October 15 crosswalk.
Peer controls informed by Parsec's public walkthrough; linked geographic and scatterplot views informed by the Stanford Educational Opportunity Explorer; year comparisons informed by the Education Scorecard. This is an independently built SDUSD tool.
